15th SWISS BRIDGE AWARD 2015

In the past 14 years CHF 7.850 Mio were paid or committed to 40 cancer research teams from 10 Countries (of approx. 800 projects evaluated).

On 3rd November 2015, two research teams (of 48 projects evaluated) were awarded with CHF 250’000.00 each for their outstanding research projects in the field of cancer stem cells.

Andreas Trumpp, PhD at the Stem Cells and Cancer at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg, received the award for his project “Multiomic characterization and targeting of blood circulating metastasis stem cells in breast cancer” and

Prof Joerg Huelsken, PhD at Cancer Stem Cell Laboratory at the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL) Lausanne for his project “Mechanism of Immune Evasion by Cancer Stem Cells”.

Running Projects

Besides the Projects rewarded through the SWISS BRIDGE AWARD 2013 and 2014, following projects have been approved and are presently running:

Four projects in research of prostate cancer

With a designated donation of over one million Swiss Francs, four projects are presently funded at the University Hospital, Zurich jointly with the Cantonal Hospital, St. Gallen, NICER (National Institute for Cancer Epidemiology and Registration), Zurich, Institute of Oncology Research, Bellinzona and King’s College London.

Instituto Nacional do Cancer (INCA) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

SWISS BRIDGE has funded important projects at INCA since 2003. Two new projects are presently funded with CHF 250’000.00 at INCA.

ecancermedicalscience

SWISS BRIDGE is a founding partner of www.ecancer.eu, an online publishing company for medical publications and information relating to all aspects of cancer. With the financial support of SWISS BRIDGE, this important source of information – at no costs for the users – is at the disposal of oncologists and cancer patients worldwide.

ecancer has started a new initiative with online-education modules for medical professionals in the field of cancer treatment. With the financial support of SWISS BRIDGE, this initiative will start in India.

Joint projects with the Swiss Cancer League and the new “AGORA” Cancer Centre Lausanne

Five projects are being funded with CHF 650’000.00 at the University Hospital in Zurich, at the Inselspital in Berne and at the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne.
